LUCK Carpet produces this wool printed wall to wall carpet for nightclubs, live rooms and late-licence bars at our plant in Foshan, Guangdong, where 26,000 m2 of floor space and 180 staff cover yarn, printing, backing and inspection in one building. The face is an 80/20 wool-nylon blend in a 10 mm cut pile at 1,200 g/m2, laminated to an anti-slip textile backing and classified Bfl-s1 to EN 13501-1. Club flooring is judged at 2 a.m. under coloured light and again at 9 a.m. in daylight.
Designers choose club carpet on a sample board under office lighting, then see it under magenta wash lamps at 1 a.m. and again in grey morning light during the cleaning shift. Those three conditions flatter different things. Saturated printed colour holds its identity under coloured light, but a pale ground with fine detail disappears. Our design team asks for the venue's lighting schedule before the artwork is finalised.
What daylight exposes is soil, not colour. Light fastness on this construction sits at Grade 5-6 to ISO 105-B02, so the venue's own lighting will not fade the print at a rate a club would notice, but no carpet hides a spilled cocktail forever. A busy printed motif breaks up the outline of a mark, which buys the cleaning crew hours they would not have on a plain field.
Wool is a protein fibre with a scaly outer layer and a moisture-holding cortex, so a spilled drink spreads downward slowly rather than wicking straight to the backing. A 1,200 g/m2 pile gives that absorption somewhere to go while a steward fetches a cloth, and the 20 % nylon in the face yarn limits how far a pigment-carrying liquid such as red wine travels.
Cleaning chemistry decides the outcome more than the fibre does. Wool dislikes high pH, so a club's default alkaline degreaser will dull the surface and set some stains instead of lifting them. We specify a pH-neutral wool detergent and a blotting technique, plus dry extraction powder for a heavy mark between deep cleans. Rubbing fastness is Grade 4-5 to ISO 105-X12, tested wet as well as dry.
The figures below were measured on finished rolls in our Foshan lab after conditioning at 23 degrees C and 50 % relative humidity. Two readings matter most to a club specifier: the pile weight, because it decides how much liquid the face can hold while staff respond, and the backing, because a loose-laid floor needs a backing that grips.

A club floor works a short, brutal shift. Doors open at nine, the room peaks around one, and by four the crew is mopping a floor covered in spilled spirits, broken glass and the residue of a fog machine.
Cleaning a club is a race against drying time. Wool takes up moisture and releases it slowly, which is an advantage during service and a problem after a wet clean if the room is sealed. We tell venues to run airflow for at least six hours after extraction cleaning. Dimensional stability stays under 0.3 % length change after three wet-cleaning cycles to ISO 2551.
Two other numbers earn their place in a club specification. Tuft bind runs 32 to 38 N to ISO 4919, so tufts hold when a broken glass is swept up and a vacuum head drags across the pile. Backing peel strength sits between 28 and 34 N/50 mm, so a loose-laid floor does not ruck in front of a bar where staff pivot all night. Our 8-year warranty on face pile covers this construction.
Each zone fails differently. The dance floor edge takes the highest point load on the smallest area, because that is where people stand still and pivot. VIP booths take heel damage and dropped ash in a tight footprint. Bar runners take spillage plus constant foot rotation from staff. The stair flight takes the sharpest concentrated wear, and it is the first place a cheap specification shows its age.
Our answer is to keep the same printed design across all four zones, since a continuous pattern makes a 600 m2 room read larger, but to change the protection under each one. Stairs get a heavier underlay and a metal nosing with a grip insert. Bar runs get a two-metre strip that can be replaced from the spare roll. For a Berlin club that opened in 2021, this kept the floor presentable.
Three specific problems deserve plain answers. Alcohol lifts colour from a printed face if it is left to sit, so the response window is minutes rather than hours, and staff need blotting cloths behind every bar. Cigarette ash chars wool at the tip and usually brushes out, but a burn reaching the backing needs a patch. Scuffing marks the pile surface, and a printed mid-tone ground hides it better than a plain one.
Where a venue allows smoking indoors, we recommend a darker printed ground for that zone and a matching border so the change reads as design rather than repair. Abrasion life runs between 30,000 and 42,000 rubs to ISO 12947-2 at 5 kPa, measured to a defined change. It is not the right product for a beer garden where the carpet sits on a slab that floods.
A 700-capacity live music club in Berlin, Germany replaced a worn synthetic floor across a 640 m2 room that includes a sunken dance floor, six VIP booths and a 14 m bar. The brief was specific: keep the black and deep red graphic identity, hide the wear that the previous floor had shown within eighteen months, and let the crew lift the bar runner for cleaning without calling a fitter.
We printed 640 m2 in seventeen rolls of 4 m width with the motif scaled so the busiest walking lines crossed a busy part of the design. The bar run and the stair flight were cut from the same run and delivered as replaceable strips. After three years of operation, the venue found pile height loss of about 1 mm on the dance floor edge and none in the booths.
Club projects usually need fire documentation before a licence is issued, so the evidence chain matters as much as the result. Reaction to fire on this construction runs through EN ISO 11925-2 for small flame behaviour and EN ISO 9239-1 for the radiant panel, leading to the Bfl-s1 class under EN 13501-1, with critical heat flux above 8.0 kW/m2. Our Foshan QC lab also records abrasion to ISO 12947-2 at 5 kPa, tuft bind to ISO 4919, peel strength in N/50 mm, colour fastness to ISO 105-B02 and ISO 105-X12, dimensional stability to ISO 2551, and emissions to GB 18587-2001 Class A.
Slip performance is measured to DIN 51130 for the R-group and the use class is set to ISO 10874, which is what an inspector will ask for on a floor that takes spilled liquid. Ask for raw values with method numbers, batch traceability on every roll, and third-party verification through SGS, Intertek or BV if your authority requires it.
Wool chars rather than melts, so a light burn usually brushes out of the pile tip with a stiff hand brush once the ash is removed. A burn that reaches the backing will not repair itself, and the honest fix is a patch cut from the spare material supplied with the order, matched on pattern and pile direction.
Yes. The digital line prints one continuous design across the full 4 m width, so a logo can sit inside a patterned field without a separate inlay or a colour break. Send the logo as vector artwork where possible, and tell us the minimum legible size, because fine text below roughly 8 mm cap height loses definition in a 10 mm pile.
Dry vacuuming before the room is reset, immediate blotting of every spill with a dry white cloth, and a pH-neutral wool detergent for anything that has dried. Use dry extraction powder for heavy marks between deep cleans. Steam and alkaline degreasers damage wool over time, so keep both off the specification even though they are the fastest options on the shelf.
The pile is a 10 mm cut, sheared to a level top, which reads as a deep matte field and keeps light reflections off the floor in photographs. Printed colour sits inside the fibre, so detail softens slightly at the edges and the surface feels dense and springy underfoot. Rolls arrive 4 m wide, wound face in on a treated core and sealed in moisture-barrier film.
Order the field area plus 8 to 10 % for cuts, bar runners and spare blocks, and give us your lighting plan and the position of the dance floor before artwork is finalised.
