Durable Carpet for Bank Branches and Multi-Site Rollouts

LUCK Carpet is a Foshan manufacturer of tufted solution dyed yarn wall to wall carpet for bank interiors. Polypropylene and polyester are coloured in the melt, so the shade runs through each filament, and the roll leaves our line as a cut pile at 5 mm on an anti-slip textile backing. Halls, teller lines, advisory rooms and safe lobbies all draw on one order. This page deals with the problem a branch network creates: making branch forty match branch one.

Part 2: In-Depth Product Introduction

One shade across forty branches: controlling colour in a banking hall

A banking hall is an unforgiving place to check a colour. Marble, brass, stone counters and layered lighting sit within a metre of the carpet, and half a grade of shade difference reads instantly under that combination. Melt pigmentation gives us a shade we can write down as a recipe and repeat, because the yarn is never dipped in a dyebath and cannot drift with one.

Branch rollouts sharpen the point. A network may refit a dozen sites over three years, in phases, through different contractors, and customers see several of those branches in one week. We hold the approved recipe and a retained control sample for every bank shade, so a roll tufted for a branch in the third year still matches the flagship hall laid in the first.

Testing a bank grade for wipe marks and standing wear

Two forces act on a bank floor that rarely meet in an office. Daily sanitising wipes the pile, and long periods of standing compress it. Colour fastness to rubbing under ISO 105-X12 returns Grade 5 dry and Grade 4 wet on this grade, which keeps a teller counter from developing pale patches. Static loading to ISO 3416 holds thickness loss at 10 % on the counter front.

Abrasion data comes off the same line. ISO 12947-2 at 5 kPa puts the bank grade at 38,500 rubs to defined change, tuft bind measured to ISO 4919 sits at 40 N, and backing laminate peel records 34 N/50 mm. Those three figures describe what a queue does to a carpet over a decade, and all three are re-tested whenever we change a yarn supplier or a backing lot.

Part 3: Technical Specification Table

Values below are measured on finished rolls in our Foshan plant, not on a lab swatch, and they are the figures we accept on a purchase order. Fire classification is Bfl-s1 under EN 13501-1, with EN ISO 9239-1 and EN ISO 11925-2 reports on file. One reading note for banks: the 4 m usable width lets a hall run with a single seam placed away from the teller line.

Part 4: Product Features & Applications

Bank interiors divide into four working zones, each with its own wear signature. A hall is about appearance under standing traffic, a teller line about repeated load at one point, advisory rooms about chairs that pivot, and a safe lobby about grit from the street. The sections below cover rollout colour control, the zones themselves, and the queue line problem that shows up in nearly every branch.

1. Specifying a single shade across a branch rollout

Rollout colour control starts at the specification stage, not at the tufting machine. Write the shade as a controlled recipe with a retained control sample, agree a strike-off for each phase, and require the mill to reserve yarn against later phases. We hold the polymer recipe for approved bank shades and rebuild it on request, which is how a branch refitted three years later avoids a mismatched entrance.

Order discipline matters as much as chemistry. Consolidate phases where the programme allows, cut the public halls from one production run, and keep two spare rolls at each branch. Where phases cannot be combined, we tuft later rolls against the original control sample and issue a shade statement with the delivery.

2. Bank interiors: hall, teller line, advisory rooms, safe lobby

The rollout we return to in the case study below covered four branches for a private bank in Zurich, Switzerland, from a flagship hall with a full height stone elevation to three smaller advisory floors. Standing traffic at the counters, chairs pivoting in meeting rooms and street grit in the safe lobby all landed on one specification, because the client wanted a single construction.

Each zone asks for something different. A hall needs light stability and a pile that recovers after a client stands for ten minutes, and ISO 3416 covers that recovery. A teller line needs bind strength and backing peel so a queue shuffling on the spot does not break the tuft. Advisory rooms need a surface that hides chair marks, and safe lobbies need entrance matting.

3. Uneven wear at the queue line in a marble clad hall

Every branch has a queue line and it wears first. In a marble clad hall the effect is magnified: the pile compacts where people shuffle forward, reflects light differently from the floor around it, and shows as a dull track running from the door to the counter. That damage is mechanical rather than cosmetic, and once the pile has leaned, brushing it back lasts about a week.

Three things limit queue line wear. Pile weight and density give the tuft something to spring back to, and tuft bind measured to ISO 4919 at 40 N keeps the yarn anchored while the queue twists on it. At The Canton Fair in Guangzhou we asked 48 branch facility managers what they notice first in a refitted hall; thirty-one named the queue lane, before the colour. Layout answers it: move the rope and post line every few months and place a mat where feet stop. Where a bank specifies polished stone, no matting and a fixed queue, this carpet will show the lane within two years.

Case Study

Zurich private bank, Switzerland: four branches, one shade

A private bank in Zurich refitted four branches in a single programme: a flagship hall with stone floors and a double height ceiling, plus three advisory floors in the same group of buildings. Total area was 1,480 m2, supplied as 13 rolls cut from one production run so the flagship and the smallest branch could be compared side by side. The brief: no client should be able to tell which branch was fitted last.

We reserved the balance of the yarn lot, issued a strike-off for approval against the original control sample, and set the hall seam away from the teller line. Two years on, the bank reports no colour complaint at any of the four sites, and a thickness check on the main queue lane came back inside the static loading band we publish. The fourth branch opened nineteen months after the first and matched it under inspection.

Quality Assurance & Testing

The release tests behind a bank grade

Bank orders are released against a written test pack. Each batch is abraded to ISO 12947-2 at 5 kPa, rubbed wet and dry to ISO 105-X12, and checked for light fastness to ISO 105-B02, where this grade reaches Grade 7 on the blue wool scale. Tuft bind follows ISO 4919, peel strength is recorded in N/50 mm, and dimensional stability after cleaning is measured to ISO 2551. Fire class Bfl-s1 is classified under EN 13501-1, emissions are Class A to GB 18587-2001, and use classification follows ISO 10874 and EN 1307. Ask for the report set with batch references.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will daily sanitising wipes bleach the shade out of the carpet?

No. The pigment sits inside the filament, so a quaternary ammonium or diluted chlorine wipe cannot lift colour that is not on the surface. Wet rub fastness to ISO 105-X12 comes back at Grade 4, which is the measured version of that answer. Rinse the wipe residue with clean water at the end of the shift and the pile stays even.

Can you hold one shade for a phased rollout over three years?

That is the normal way we run bank work. The recipe and a control sample are archived against your shade code, and we reserve yarn capacity rather than finished carpet, because yarn keeps better than a wound roll. Give us a phase schedule at order stage and we will confirm a reservation window in writing.

What is your minimum order for one small branch?

Single branch quantities are quoted, because a community branch of 240 m2 is a real project for us. Small runs are cut from the same extrusion as larger orders wherever the schedule allows, so a small branch still receives yarn from a full production lot. Freight is consolidated with other orders to keep the landed cost sensible.

Product Details

Roll format, seams and how a bank order is placed

The carpet ships as cut pile broadloom in 4 m usable width, wound face in on a core and wrapped for container loading, with straight pre-trimmed selvedges so a fitter can butt joint without re-cutting the edge. The surface is matte and firm underfoot, which keeps reflections off a polished hall floor, and the anti-slip backing holds the roll flat over stone or screed.

Corporate shades are matched to an approved strike-off, and custom patterns are available when artwork is supplied by the buyer and approved before production. Allow four weeks for a stock shade and six when the yarn has to be extruded to a new recipe, plus transit, and ask for third party inspection at our plant if your client requires it. The face pile is warranted for 8 years. Send LUCK Carpet your branch list, areas and phase dates for a shade and reservation plan.
