Office comfort is a density question before it is a softness question. At 800 g/m² this cut pile carries enough fibre that neighbouring tufts support each other under a castor instead of bending flat one at a time. A lighter face mats within a season on a busy route. The anti-slip textile backing holds the roll flat across the width and grips a tack strip without adhesive.
Pile height decides more than buyers expect. Past roughly 8 mm, chair bases sink, rolling resistance rises, and castors push pile aside rather than riding over the tips. At 7 mm the pile still covers the backing. That geometry holds only while tufts stay anchored, so finished rolls are tested for tuft bind to ISO 4919, currently 35 N, and for backing peel, currently 31 N/50 mm.
Our line runs a greige roll through a digital printer, a steamer that drives disperse dye into the filament, an in-line wash that lifts unfixed dye out of the pile, then drying and heat-setting. The wash is the step buyers rarely ask about and the one that decides how the floor looks in year three. Printing at a 4 m usable width keeps a floor plate to two or three seams.
Colour control happens before the run, not after a complaint. We measure the approved strike-off on a spectrophotometer, archive it with the artwork, and read the head of every run against it. Register is held to plus or minus 2 mm across the width. The construction holds under 0.3 % length change after three wet-cleaning cycles to ISO 2551, and the face passes GB 18587-2001 at Class A.
These figures are the ones we print on the roll label and carry on the batch data sheet, measured on the finished roll in our Foshan plant. That matters on face weight: this is printed and washed weight, while a greige weight taken before printing reads higher. Fire performance is the European class, tested to EN 13501-1.

An open-plan office puts three loads on one floor: the static load of desk clusters, the rolling load of task chairs, and the abrasive drag of feet along the circulation spine. One specification carries all three, which is why the printed face weight and the backing are chosen as a pair rather than separately.
Abrasion data is the first filter a buyer should apply. Our Foshan lab runs this construction to ISO 12947-2 at 5 kPa and reports rubs to defined change; six recent batches averaged 36,400. Fire class is Bfl-s1 to EN 13501-1, the class most European office landlords ask for, and light fastness sits at Grade 5 on the ISO 105-B02 scale.
Where this product is the wrong choice: commercial kitchens, washrooms, gym floors and any room a client intends to mop daily. Printed polyester broadloom is a dry-area floor, and we would rather say that at quotation stage than argue about it at snagging. Inside its lane it is a sensible buy, and the backing keeps the installation flat without the curing time adhesive brings.
Zone the floor before choosing the pattern. Workstation grids want a small, low-contrast repeat, because a bold graphic under a desk cluster competes with screens. Meeting rooms want the opposite: a motif that marks the room once the glass wall is shut. Circulation wants a plain field or a directional print that pulls the eye along the corridor. The Warsaw fit-out below used that split, printed in one run.
Seam planning decides whether a printed office floor looks deliberate. On that project the drops were cut so the pattern ran across the floor plate rather than along it, with seams landing under the glazing mullions. Waste came in under four per cent per floor, and installation ran over three weekends so the building stayed occupied.
Castor damage is three failures wearing one name. Soft-wheel castors polish and lay the pile into a lane. Hard castors with a small diameter concentrate load and can pull tufts out of the primary backing, which is why tuft bind is published in Newtons rather than the pile being called hard wearing. Twin-wheel castors spread load. Our standing advice is 60 mm twin-wheel castors and no chair mats. At the April session of The Canton Fair in Guangzhou we asked 44 workplace fit-out managers which sample test they run first; thirty-one gave the same answer, and it was not abrasion. They put a loaded task chair on the sample and leave it there for a weekend.
Glare is the second complaint, and it lands on the people facing a window. A polished hard floor throws a bright band across a monitor at certain hours; a matte cut pile scatters that light instead of reflecting it. The print helps too: where a design interrupts large fields of one tone, vacuum marks and foot shading read as pattern rather than stripes. Keep the repeat under about half a metre in workstation areas.
A workplace design studio briefed us on a shell-and-core building in Warsaw for a shared-services operator: one printed floor carrying a workstation field, eight meeting rooms and a reception, and no adhesive, because tenants were trading on the floor below. We printed the order in one run from a single strike-off and delivered it in seventeen 30 m rolls at the 4 m usable width.
Installation ran over three weekends, one wing at a time, on tack strip over a fibre pad. Eighteen months on, the operator ordered a further 240 m² to extend the west wing. We pulled the archived strike-off, printed the extension and measured it against the original on the spectrophotometer; register held within 2 mm at the join. The facility team has logged no chair-mat requests since handover.
Every printed office roll leaves Foshan with a batch data sheet that names the method and the result. Abrasion is ISO 12947-2 at 5 kPa, reported in rubs to defined change. Tuft bind is ISO 4919 in Newtons. Light fastness is ISO 105-B02 at Grade 5, rubbing is ISO 105-X12 at Grade 4-5, fire is EN 13501-1 class Bfl-s1, dimensional stability is ISO 2551 after three wet-cleaning cycles and VOC performance is GB 18587-2001, Class A. Ask any supplier for the raw report with the sample identification on it.
Usually, yes. The anti-slip textile backing is made for tack strip around the perimeter, so there is no adhesive, no curing window and no solvent smell: a wing can be closed on Friday and handed back on Sunday. Where a trolley route needs a fully anchored floor, a low-tack pressure-sensitive adhesive also works.
They will leave a mark, then release it. The pile supports itself under a castor and stands back up once the chair moves, which is why tuft bind is tested on the finished roll. Deep lanes appear when castors are hard, small in diameter and always in the same track. Specify 60 mm twin-wheel castors and rotate desk positions once a year.
Send vector artwork or a Pantone reference; our pre-sales engineer checks it for printability, we produce a physical strike-off, and we read it on the spectrophotometer against your reference before bulk printing starts. Register is held within 2 mm, so a logo crossing a seam still lines up, and where a shade sits outside what disperse dye can reach we say so before you commit.
The floor arrives as cut pile broadloom with a dense, matte surface and no sheen, which is part of why it behaves under screen light. Colour comes from the print rather than a solution-dyed yarn, so pale neutrals and saturated darks are both reachable. Rolls are wound face inward on a cardboard core, trimmed straight at the selvedge, and packed in moisture-proof film with a batch label.
For occupied offices we recommend tack strip around the perimeter over a fibre pad; low-tack adhesive is the alternative where the floor must be fully anchored. Ordering runs from artwork to a digital proof, then a strike-off for approval, then bulk production.
